Reader's Workshop
Each reading class will consist of a 10-15 minutes mini lesson on a skill or focus for the day, followed by 35-40 minutes of reading independently, in pairs, or small groups to practice the skill, and will finish up with 5 minutes of sharing. During the reading portion of our time together, students will be encouraged to read intensely with attention to details that the author provides. I will be working with small groups or individuals during this time to help develop the skill or focus.
Current Focus
Our current focus is non-fiction research. The students have been placed in groups to study one of nature's natural disasters. Together, they are creating focus topics for each member to research. Next, they will synthesize the information into paragraphs with a main idea and supporting details. Finally, they will have to site their source.
